The South African Heart Association® (SA Heart®) is running the Check my Beat – the winning Heart Health Track Competition (the "Competition") on a dedicated website / microsite with the URL www.checkmybeatsa.com

These are the Standard Competition Terms and Conditions that apply to the Competition and comprise Part A (which contains the Competition-specific information and terms and conditions) and Part B (which contains general terms and conditions that apply to this competition). In the event of any conflict, the terms and conditions of Part B prevail.

All Competition participants agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions (comprising Part A and Part B).

Part A: Competition-Specific Terms and Conditions

Competition Duration

1. The Competition period/duration is from:

  • Start date: 23h59, Thursday 18 September 2025
  • End date: 23h59, Wednesday, 8 October 2025

Competition Prize/s

2. The Competition Prizes are:

  • Total number of Prizes: 3
  • First prize: R3000 Takealot Gift Voucher (non-exchangeable for cash or refundable)
  • Second Prize: R2000 Takealot Gift Voucher (non-exchangeable for cash or refundable)
  • Third Prize: R1000 Takealot Gift Voucher (non-exchangeable for cash or refundable)
  • Prize exclusions: All travel related to collecting the prize.

Eligibility to win a prize

3.1. The Competition is open to registered Taxi drivers with a license to operate from Bara Taxi Rank, Johannesburg. Participants must have a valid driver's license, reside in South Africa and be in possession of a valid South African identity document or permanent residence.

Participants must:

  • Get their heart health screened on 17 September 2025 at the Bara Taxi rank between 9h30am and 15h00pm.
  • Receive their personalised "Heart Health Track", based on their heart health results.
  • Agree to having their Heart Health Track entered into the competition, including the display of his/her name/nickname.
  • Have their Heart Health Track uploaded to the competition website on 19 September 2025.
  • Each participant is limited to one "Heart Health Track".
  • Encourage the public to vote for their "Heart Health Track" from 19 September until 8 October 2025.

Note: The "Heart Health Track" is generated based on the participant's heart health and questionnaire results and is unique to their data. All heart health data is processed anonymously and used solely for the purpose of generating the personalised music track. The generated track is for personal use only and may not be sold, licensed, or used for commercial purposes without permission.

Participation - Public

2. The public is invited to vote for their favourite Heart Health Track of the "Check My Beat" campaign.

  • Employees of the South African Heart Association®, their immediate family members and anyone directly connected to the campaign, are not eligible to participate.
  • Voting takes place by way of 'liking' your favourite "Heart Health Track" by clicking on the heart next to the Heart Health Track and Taxi Driver's Name on the competition dedicated website (only).
  • A valid 'like' support can only be given on the dedicated competition website.

Competition Winner

3. The Taxi driver with the "Heart Health Track" that collects the most votes (likes) on the competition website by the end of the voting period, will win.

  • Follow up prizes will be allocated to the taxi drivers with the second and third highest number of likes of the Heart Health Track.
  • The winner will be announced on 11 October 2025, on this competition website, as well as on SA Heart®'s social media pages and radio.
  • The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The verified winners will be notified within (2) two days after he/she has been selected.

Prize Delivery

4. Prizes will be awarded during the Networking opening session of the 25th Annual SA Heart® Congress in the Sandton Convention Centre on 18 October 2025 starting at 18h00.

  • Each of the winners is entitled to bring ONE accompanying person to the ceremony to collect their respective prize.
  • Transport to and from the venue is on own cost.
  • Important: If the winners cannot attend the event and collect their prize in person on 18 October 2025, the prize will be forfeited.

Part B: General Competition Terms and Conditions

Duration

The duration of the Competition (as stipulated in Part A above) may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of SA Heart®

Prize

SA Heart® has the right to change the type and quantity of prize/s (described in Part A above) or to substitute it at their discretion, and SA Heart® has the right to determine the value of the Prize/s.

Eligibility

  • Only votes received during the Competition period (as stipulated in clause 1 in Part A above) above will qualify as determining the winner.
  • SA Heart® reserves the right to verify that the winners are registered Taxi drivers at the Bara Taxi rank, Johannesburg.
  • Employees, directors and agents of SA Heart® and all participating sponsors, their immediate families, life partners, business partners and associates, and any person directly involved with the sponsoring, devising, production, management, or marketing of this Competition are not eligible to participate.

Winner Validation

  • SA Heart® will share personal details of the respective winners with a SA Heart®-approved third-party agency, HVM Auditors who will confirm and verify total votes received by each participant and confirm the winners.
  • SA Heart® will use reasonable efforts to contact the winners via direct messaging or telephonically for a period of 2 (two) normal working weekdays after they have been verified as winners.
  • Should a participant not be available on the contact details provided during the timeframe stipulated above or rejects, forfeit, or decline acceptance of the Prize, that person's right to the Prize will be deemed to have been waived, and the Prize will be forfeited.

Undertakings, Limitation of Liability and Indemnification

The "Check My Beat" campaign is for informational and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to replace professional medical advice. Participants are encouraged to consult a Health Care Professional regarding any concerns about their heart health or fitness.

  • SA Heart® and/or any other person or party associated with the Competition shall not be liable whatsoever for any loss or damage incurred or suffered (including but not limited to direct or indirect or consequential loss), death or personal injury suffered or sustained arising from either participation in the Competition, from claiming the Prize, or attending an event or experience forming part of the Prize.
  • SA Heart® is not liable for any technical failures affecting participation and/or Prize redemption process of the Competition.
  • SA Heart® cannot and will not be held liable should it be impossible for it to deliver the Prize or to fully perform, execute or fulfil the Prize.

Check my Beat Heart Health Track Competition Website Privacy Clause

Purpose and Duration

This website is for the sole purpose of facilitating the public to vote for their favorite Heart Health Track, it is live for participation from 19 September to 8 October 2025.

Personal Information and Data Collection

We respect your privacy. We do not collect or store any personal information other than the email address you provide to create and log in to the voting website.

Personal information of Taxi drivers collected through the Check my Beat initiative are essential to generate the Heart Health Track. However, all personal information (name, contact details, screening results and questionnaire results) are stored outside of this website and by participating in this competition, the taxi driver gives permission to display his/her name or nickname, the title and music track of the song. Voters participate anonymously and only the login details are collected from the public participating in the voting process.

The data collected by public participation is the number of likes/votes each Heart Health Track receives, as well as their login details (email address used) but no other personal information such names, surnames, telephone numbers, ID numbers are stored.

This voting data (number of likes per song) will be exported for auditing purposes and destroyed once the winners have received their prizes.

The results will be continuously displayed online until the next campaign starts.

After voting has stopped at 23h59 of 8 October 2025, the auditors will review the results to establish the winner(s) which will be announced on the site by 11 October.

This site does not make use of cookies to function properly and does not trace user behavior.

Intellectual Property

  • All intellectual property rights in the campaign, including AI-generated "Heart Health Tracks", remain the property of SA Heart®.
  • Participants are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use and share their track for personal, non-commercial purposes only.

General

  • Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to, or must be understood to, unlawfully restrict, limit or avoid any rights or obligations, as the case may be, created for either the participant or the promoter in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 ("CPA").
  • The judges' decision on any aspect of the Competition, including the allocation of the Prizes, will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • SA Heart® may refuse to award a Prize if entry procedures or these Terms and Conditions have not been adhered to or if it detects any irregularities or fraudulent practices.
  • If SA Heart® is required by law to alter or cancel any aspect of the Competition or to terminate it as a result of changes in legislation, or for any reason whatsoever, it will have the right to terminate the Competition being offered, with immediate effect and without notice.

The Competition is also subject to and must be read in conjunction with, SA Heart's existing terms and conditions applicable to its website and mobile site, respectively.
